Partner provisions - NOT commencing 17 April 2019

The Department advised that further regulation and system changes are required for the new framework to apply to the partner visas, therefore the current arrangements for existing visas, including partner visas, will continue to operate from 17 April 2019.

Changes to Australia’s sponsored family visas are scheduled to commence on 17th April 2019. The new Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill was recently passed through Parliament. It will have a significant impact on whether an Australian Partner Visa application can be lodged when the applicant (the partner or spouse) is living in Australia.

Two NEW Australian Skilled Regional Visas Proposed

 
Great news for skilled migrants dreaming of a new life in Australia. The Australian Government has announced a proposal to introduce two new skilled regional visas from November 2019.

The new Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa are intended for skilled migrants, and their dependent family members, who want to live and work in Australia.

The Government has also proposed a route to permanent residence via a new permanent regional visa from November 2022.

New Jobs Added to Skilled Occupation Lists

 

Australia's government recently announced changes to the lists of skilled occupations for Australia's skilled visa programmes. These changes came into effect on 11 March 2019 and include occupations that will be:

  1. Added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL),

  2. Moved from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the MLTSSL,

  3. Added to the Regional Occupations List (ROL), and;

  4. Removed from the STSOL.

A new Visas for General Practitioners (GPs) initiative was also announced on 11 March. It's designed to direct doctors into rural and regional areas of Australia that have lower access to services. Let's find out more about these recent changes...
